Food Waste and Composting
What's the best way to reduce food waste? By donating what you can to those in need!
Some weeks ago now, it was Food Waste Awareness Week, the week after it was Compost Week UK! Needless to say, I'm a bit late writing about this... Sorry! As a hobby, I run www.compostguy.co.uk, and with a couple of poorly little kids and my eldest breaking their arm, life was busy and I failed to get much sorted for these weeks.
So, better late than never - lets talk about Food Waste and Composting!
I joined veg box because I'm passionate about helping people, and interested in food waste and doing it better. During food waste awareness week I was thinking a lot about how sometimes we as a society buy too much food, don't use it and then throw it away. In this scenario, there are no winners.
Did you know that we get donations from supermarkets of fresh fruit and veg that we can pass onto those in need? Yes, not only do we and our friends grow food to give away, or pass on our excess produce from our allotments, we also get these valuable donations from local businesses.
If you are reading this and grow your own food, why not think about donating excess food you grow to help others?
